It’s pizza time! Okay, I know that I claim to love a lot of things; ice cream, mimosas, and all things mini but I am adding another thing to that list. Pizza! There are a few things I love about this tasty dish. First and foremost. Cheese. Then, of course, the toppings and how easy it is to try new combinations. Lastly, it is the perfect date night in dinner. It is a great meal to make with your significant other, rent a movie and enjoy a relaxing night in.
My husband and I have named Saturday night as our date night. We either go out and try a new restaurant or stay in and it is something I look forward to every week. I’ll be perfectly honest though, most weeks we stay in. Mid-week I am usually sending him restaurant ideas and voting for the go out,
One of my go-to meals is homemade pizza. It is really easy and fun to make, plus you can choose your toppings and make it to your liking. Our usual toppings are pepperoni, salami, and olives with lots of sauce. My husband loves a pizza with a good sauce. So when I told him that this one would be a white pizza he was not convinced and tried to sway me back to the sauce. Sorry honey, this sauceless pizza is happening.
Not adding sauce was the best decision I made and after my husband scarfed down three pieces, he knew it too. This pizza is so good, you guys! I can only describe it as a rustic pizza that has a spice from the Italian sausage and a smoky, earthy flavor from the Shiitake mushrooms. It is one of those pizzas that is too easy to eat but too good to not. I couldn’t get enough.

Sausage, Mushroom and Garlic Pizza
Ingredients
- 1 store-bought pizza dough
- 1/2 pound Italian sausage
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 1/2 cups baby shiitake mushrooms or cremini
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1 cup mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup fontina cheese
- red pepper flakes (optional)
Instructions
- Pre-heat oven to 425° and grease a baking sheet or line with a baking mat.
- Set the pizza dough out on the counter at least 10 minutes before you plan to start cooking to bring to room temperature.
- On a lightly floured surface, push and roll out dough until very thin, about a 10-12 inch circle. Transfer to prepared baking sheet.
- In a large skillet over medium-high heat, heat 1 tablespoon of the olive oil. Add the Italian sausage and cook until cooked and browned. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
- Add garlic and saute until fragrant. Add the mushrooms and cook just until soft; about 3-5 minutes.
- Spread the remaining tablespoon over the dough and sprinkle the dried basil on top.
- Sprinkle the mozzarella cheese over the dough. Add the sausage and mushrooms and top with the fontina cheese.
- Bake for 10 – 15 minutes or until the crust is crisp and browned and the cheese is melted.
- Remove from the oven and sprinkle with red pepper flakes. ENJOY!

When she made this I took one to eat just to be polite but………WOW I loved it!! This will especially be nice for The Dad who can’t have much tomato sauce.

Love your recipes!
However, on the carrot cake cupcakes you don’t mention the yield.
Also on the sausage and mushroom pizza, I don’t know what size crust to use to accommodate the ingredients.
Perhaps I missed these facts..
Thank you!
