Heyo! So, we are halfway into the spooky season and I am loving every minute of it. Usually about this time of year I am planning my Halloween party; putting up decorations, getting the invites ready and planning the food spread. This year though I have been far too busy to plan a Halloween party. Boo! : (
My husband and I recently moved to a homestead in a small town about 40 minutes outside of Portland and we couldn’t be happier, but that means we are busy, busy, busy. So no Halloween party this year, but you better believe next year’s party is going to be amazing!
Anyways, although I am not throwing a party this year I still love to put together spooky options that would be perfect for a Halloween party. And of course, I had to make a charcuterie board. I am OBSESSED with charcuterie boards! Last year I made a Halloween Candy Board and it is by far my most favorite spooky option for a buffet table. Your guests will love seeing their favorite candies and being able to indulge a little.
Because I love the candy board so much, I wanted to create a savory option that was just as fun and spooky. And guess what!? it’s so easy to put together and a lot of fun to pick out spooky foods that will scream Halloween. So let’s jump into how to create a spooky charcuterie board.
Choose the board, containers and decor
First things first, choose what you would like to put your charcuterie board on. I usually put mine on a cutting board, but a platter or slab of marble works great also.
Choose any containers or bowls. It looks best when there is some dimension and height to the board. I used a couple small bowls and a skull shot glass.
My favorite part, find some decor that you can add to really spookify your board. I used a mini pumpkin, some plastic spiders, mini string lights and black mesh under my board. Hit up the Dollar Tree for some great inexpensive decor options.
Choose the foods
A good charcuterie board has crackers, nuts, cheeses and fruits. Keep the spooky theme in mind when choosing your foods. I went with dark grapes, blackberries, and black plums.
Using nuts like walnuts are great because they looook like braiiiins ooooo : ) and pistachios because they are green. Green olives and oil soaked black olives are great choices and black sesame crackers add another creepy element. My spooky boards always has yogurt pretzels included because I think they resemble skeletons.
One of my favorite snacks on this board is the mozzarella pearls mixed with green pesto. They are absolutely delicious and the green adds to the eerie feel. When picking out cheeses, look for kinds that have a creepiness to it, like blue cheese. There is even a cheese out there called Vampire Slayer, it has garlic in it!
Lastly, add some meats. I used prosciutto but any salami or pepperoni would work great also.
Put the basics on first
When adding the foods to the board, start by placing any containers on first. Make sure that it is balanced so if you have more than one, place them on opposite sides of the board. Fill the containers and then add your other foods.
Charcuterie boards look best when they are over flowing with foods, so don’t be light handed. Group your foods together but balance the board by placing some of the same foods on opposite sides of the board.
Add the final touches
Okay, so your board is overflowing with spooky foods. It’s time to add the final touches and decor. Scatter any spiders or bugs around or in any open spots and if you have string lights, place them around your board.
You’re done! Pretty easy, right!? One last tip before I go. When throwing any party, prepping is a life saver. The day before place the foods you are going to use in plastic bags and fill any containers with the food and cover with aluminum foil. This will make it way easier for you on party day. Just pull the foods out and start building your board.

What a great board decor! And the idea for looking some decor pieces at the dollar store makes it more budget friendly! Plus, it looked delicious! Thanks for sharing!
