Giving holiday treats for the holidays is one of my favorite parts of the holiday season. My family knows they will get a bag full of goodies from me every year.
In past years, I have stuffed a holiday bag full of different treats. I call them holiday goodie bags and it is one of my favorite things to put together. It is always a hit and several family members look forward to my snowman poo, a.k.a muddy buddies, or a.k.a holiday crack. It is so good and all I have to say is I am happy to be giving most of it away.
There are several different ways of gifting delicious treats. Boxes, bags, jars, tins, and I feel like I have done them all but, one that I haven’t a cookie box. The individual compartments, strategically place treats that all complement each other, I just love it!
It has always been an intimidating thing to put together. Turns out, it isn’t hard at all! The most time-consuming part is the baking, but if you are anything like me you won’t mind that part.
A holiday cookie box is also a great dessert option for that holiday party you are planning! Put this on the buffet table for a great display and treats that your guests will love.
First things first, making the holiday treats. My box isn’t just a cookie box. It’s more like a treat box. I added some homemade Almond Roca and chocolate peppermint marshmallows. Give yourself some creative freedom and add whatever treats you would like.

Another great thing about these boxes is that you only need a few supplies. I contemplated for a while on what kind of box to use. A cardboard box, a wooden box, a tin box, and the trust is they are all great options but I landed on a wooden box.
In addition to the box, you just need a few more supplies, a couple of decorations to dress it up, and voila – you are ready to put together your cookie box.
Supplies
- A sturdy box
- Cardboard strips (optional)
- Cupcake liners
- Tissue or wax paper
- Ribbon or bakers twine
Start by mapping out where you would like your treats to go in the box. This way you will be able to cut your cardboard strips accordingly. Any cardboard will do. I used a graham cracker box and glued two pieces together so only the inside of the box was showing.
Before you cut your cardboard be sure to measure how deep your box is so the cardboard will be flush with the box. Cut your cardboard strips so they are very snug in the box. Use a little tape, if needed to secure them to the box.
Next, place your treats in! Use festive tissue paper, wax paper, or cupcake liners to place your treats in for a more festive look. You can also tie a bow around stacks of cookies using baker’s twine or ribbon to really bring on the holiday vibes.
Quick Tip: If your cupcake liners full of treats are not tall enough to reach the top of your box, place a stack of cardboard or bubble wrap under it to prop it up.
Once your box is stuffed full of delicious treats, wrap a bow around it for the finishing touch. If you plan to ship this, a lid will be needed. Add a layer of bubble wrap on the top before putting the lid on and make sure it is secure in your box before shipping.
And, done! It can take a bit of time to bake the cookies, stuff the box, and dress it up, but it is well worth it. You will wow your friends and family with this holiday gift box full of classic treats.
