Hi There! Is it just me, or at the end of the summer does your skin seem a little tired? I had one of those moments where you get up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom, look in the mirror and your skin looks just as tired as you are. Honestly, I scared myself a little. I thought sleeping was supposed to rejuvenate you!
Okay, all jokes aside the pressure we place on ourselves to stay looking young can be a bit of a burden. We all want the skin that never ages but unfortunately that just isn’t reality (unless you are J.Lo, seriously does she age at all!?).
Aging is inevitable, but it is also beautiful. If you make it to the age where you have wrinkles then you are lucky! I think there is a healthy balance of embracing the aging and using products on your skin that will keep it healthy and youthful.
Skincare has been an interest of mine for a while now. My first career path was an esthetician. It was a great experience that taught me so much and ignited a passion for skincare.
I have my favorite skin care products (I am looking at you Alpha Beta Peel – seriously check this product out. It’s my absolute favorite at home peel) but I really loved learning about the natural ingredients that Mother Nature provides.
There are so many natural ingredients that are amazing for the skin that are at your grocery store! Not only is it great to make your own skincare because it is so inexpensive, but also you know exactly what is going into it. There are times to splurge on that favorite skincare product (still looking at you Alpha Beta Peel) and then there are times to DIY it to save some cash.
This night cream is one of the easiest products I have made at home. I am no stranger to making my own products, check out my homemade sugar scrubs or these DIY bath salts. After my scare in the bathroom mirror at 2am, I decided it was time to make a night cream that would nourish my skin.
Coconut oil and Shea Butter are my go-to bases when making a lot of my homemade skin care products. These are both great for the skin, they are moisturizing, anti-inflammatory and the fatty acids help protect the skin from harmful bacteria. Rosehip oil is the real hero here though! Rosehip has a high level of Vitamin A which makes it great for anti-aging, it brightens the skin and it can help reduce skin pigmentation.
Homemade Anti-Aging Rosehip Night Cream
Ingredients
- 1/3 cup Coconut oil
- 1/3 cup Shea butter
- 5-8 drops Rose hip oil
- 3 Vitman E softgels
Instructions
- Coconut oil hardens in the cold so set it out on the counter and let it warm up until it is easy to work with.
- Place the coconut oil and shea butter into a medium bowl and using an electric hand mixer, beat until smooth a free of lumps. If you do not have an mixer you can use a large spoon.
- Take vitamin E softgels, puncture with a needle and squeeze oil into the bowl. Add the drops of rosehip oil and mix until combined.
- Using a spatula, scoop into a glass jar with lid.
- If it is warm in your house, the cream may get really soft. If it gets too soft, pop it in the fridge until it hardens. A lot goes a long way of this cream and you can use it on your body too!
