Hey Friend! I hope you are enjoying the first week of October. I know I am! It’s my favorite month and I am so excited to share some spooky fun things with you. As some of you may know from all my Instagram stories, my husband and I recently moved!
We moved from an old farmhouse in the city to a homestead in a little rural town and we absolutely love it. We have beautiful views and the opportunity to live the life we have always wanted. A simpler and fulfilling life that promotes growth and creativity and I can’t wait to share all our new adventures with you.
With that being said, no matter where you move, it is always a lot of work! Boxes everywhere, nothing organized and constant questions of “where did we pack…?” or “have you seen my…?” it’s a work in progress, but one that is well worth it.
Since we have boxes everywhere and many things out of place, it has been nearly impossible for me to decorate inside my house for Halloween. I know, how am I surviving!? : ) Well, I took my decorations to the front porch where there are no boxes and plenty of space to work with.
My new front porch is perfect for decorating. It has double doors and a beautiful wooden deck area. Orange mums was the first thing to come to mind for porch decor. They are a classic choice for fall. I have never decorated with mums so I was really looking forward to using them.
I looked up if you can winterize your potted mums and plant them in the spring. Turns out you can! You just have to keep them warm through the winter and in spring start fertilizing and pruning them. I will bring my mums inside for the winter and plant them in the Spring in hopes that their roots will take.
I stuck with the traditional fall colors. There are so many combinations of colors that look amazing for fall, but I just love the classic orange and black. It screams Halloween!
Of course, lots of pumpkins were absolutely necessary! I wanted the pumpkins to look like they are cascading down my porch, starting with the large green pumpkin from Home Goods. They have the most amazing fall decor, you gotta check it out! Mixed in there are some real pumpkins from Al’s Garden Center (if you are in Portland Metro Area, check out Al’s for pumpkins, they have them for $1.99 any size) and some glass pumpkins that are gorgeous, especially when the sun hits them.
Possibly my favorite part is the cat lantern from Joann Fabrics. It was one of those moments. You lock eyes on an item and know that you have to have it. Plus, it was on sale! You know how I feel about sales. Sign up for my newsletter to receive weekly sales in your inbox!
The fall colored wreath is a DIY project I made for a whiskey bar last summer. It is perfect for fall decor and looks so nice with the mums.
Lastly, I of course had to add in Mr. Bones the skeleton and his skeleton dog. It adds a little playfulness to the decor and makes it fun! I mean, that is what Halloween is all about, right?
