Thanksgiving is over and that means it is time for Christmas decorations! As soon as Thanksgiving is over, my Christmas decor goes up. I try really hard to not blend the holidays. It can be hard some years as I get really excited to decorate for Christmas and I may find myself humming along to jingle bells mid-November, but it is really important to me to savor the moment, enjoy the turkey and then decorate for Christmas. Don’t get me wrong though, my belly is still full from turkey while I am pulling the Christmas boxes out of the attic.
The day after Thanksgiving is a special day for me. It is part of the reason I force myself to keep the holidays separate. It adds so much anticipation and by the time that Friday morning comes, it almost feels like Christmas day! (Almost). I spend the whole day rocking out to Christmas tunes and decorating. Every piece of decor I bring out of the box has a memory and my husband and I reminisce while sipping on our coffee or hot cocoa. It is a day I look forward to all season and I am so excited that it is here!
Just like every other holiday, every year I love to add something new (more like a few somethings) to my decor. And as much as I love to spend my time decorating, the easy decor options are always better. It is never fun when the decorating turns frustrating because a piece of decor won’t cooperate. These mini spruce trees are such an easy option for Christmas decor because well…they are basically mini Christmas trees! If you know me at all, you know I love mini anything so this is like a double whammy when it comes to things I love. Christmas and mini. These are mini spruce trees but lemon cypress trees are also a lovely choice.
To dress these mini trees up a bit, I have the easiest DIY way to bring on the Christmas look. All you need is wrapping paper, and brown twine, baker’s twine or even ribbon! Also, just a quick FYI, The Container Store has an amazing selection of wrapping paper. Start by measuring how tall the pot that the tree is in and multiply that by two. Then measure the width of the bottom and add that to the height, then add one inch. For example, my pots were five inches tall, multiplied by two would equal 10. The width of my base was five inches added to 10 equals 15 inches, plus one inch for a total of 16 inches.
Cut out a square of wrapping paper as big as your total inches (mine was a 16-inch square). Cut a long piece of twine and place your pot in the middle of the wrapping paper square. Carefully begin to fold the wrapping paper up to cover the pot. The wrapping paper will have to fold over itself to stay tight to the pot, this is okay. Once you have the wrapping paper in place, wrapping the twine around the pot and tie with a tight bow. That is how easy this project is! I made two and I already want to make more. These look great on an entry table, kitchen shelf or even as a centerpiece. I hope you all enjoy decorating for the season and soak up the festive feelings.
