Summer is the perfect season for all parties! The weather is warm, the days are longer and everyone has more energy because of the extra Vitamin D, that part may just be a Portland thing but either way Summer parties are so fun.
Whether it is a dinner party or a barbecue, tablecloths are pretty much essential. For a dinner party coming up, I needed a new tablecloth and I had a specific look I wanted for the table setting.
Using a linen tablecloth, which is a great texture for the paint to adhere to, and stencils, you can create a beautiful custom tablecloth.
What you’ll need:
Once you have all the supplies the process that follows is pretty easy. Decide on how you would like your patterns to be placed on the tablecloth.
My vision was to use those three patterns scattered at random on the sides going up towards the top and just barely creeping over the top, but the possibilities are endless.
Measure the size of the table and lightly mark where it will be on the tablecloth. That way you know where the sides and top of the tablecloth will be on the table and will have an easier time placing the patterns.
Next, start painting! Hold the stencil down and dab a light layer over the stencil and carefully brush until covered. Make sure to not use too much paint or some paint could get under the stencil. Once thoroughly covered, carefully peel the stencil off and move to the next spot.
Quick tips for the perfect tablecloth
- It is easy to get distracted so watch where you are stepping and leaning.
- Also, be aware of where the stencil is resting. Nothing can cramp your craft style like smudged paint!
- Allow your tablecloth to dry completely then put it on your table and dress it up! You can iron this tablecloth on low and spot clean only.
