Garlands are such an easy way to decorate and they are a great weekend project. Actually, this one is more like an hour on the weekend project. It is so easy! Garlands can add seasonal flair to a doorway, mantle or a just draping across a wall. I love the minimal crafty look this Halloween garland has. It is simple and sweet but perfectly spooky.
Probably the best part about this DIY is that it is unbelievably easy to make. Those are the best projects, aren’t they? The ones that don’t take up your whole day but are a great result. That is exactly what this project is. A bang for your buck and a breeze to make. I found these sweet pumpkin and ghost graphics on Canva and whipped up a little printable for you to use. So pretty much this project includes printing these out and pining them to twine.
After I decided to make a garland I went to the craft store to pick up the supplies. I often go to the craft store mid-idea to try to get inspired. As I walked the aisles waiting for inspiration, I came across these mini clothespins. Side note, I have a serious obsession with mini things. Mostly in food, but kind of in a lot of other things. Anyways, I loved the clothespins and how easy they would make this garland. It suddenly occurred to me, I could add green paint to the front and the pins would look like the stems of the pumpkins. I was sold, take my money craft store.
I was totally anticipating leaving the store with that feeling of guilt for overspending but it was quite the opposite. It was instead the overjoyed feeling that I spent close to nothing! Whenever I make these projects, it is pretty much my main mission to make it without spending all my money. I love holiday decor, but I also love being able to pay my bills. This project will not have you leaving the craft store feeling bad about your bank account. You only need a few supplies!
What You’ll Need:
Ghost and Pumpkin Cut-Outs
Two sheets of cardstock paper
Mini Clothespins
Green and Silver (or Black) Paint
Twine
Paintbrush
Scissors
To start, paint half the clothespins green and half silver. Black is also a great choice for the clothespins for the ghosts. You only have to paint the front part of the pin that will be showing.
While the clothespins are drying, print out the ghost and pumpkins and cut them out. Remember, since the green painted clothespins will be the stem for the pumpkin you can cut the stem off the cut-out.
Cut a piece of twine; I cut a five-foot piece. Lay it flat on a table and spread it out to get any coils out. Using the clothespins, pin the pumpkins with the green pins and the ghosts with the silver. Pin the ghosts and pumpkins every other on one garland or make two garlands with one on each.
Done! That may be the easiest project ever! In addition to home decor, this garland would also be great for party decor. Drape over a sign, buffet or bar.
