Welcome to Sage to Silver!
I’m Kaylene, but everyone calls me Kay. I was born and raised in Portland, Oregon, and currently live in a small town outside of the city on a lovely little homestead.
I work at a Sports Center for a Sports Apparel Company, which I love and cherish but my true passion lies in the simpler things in life. crafting, cooking, home decorating, and entertaining. I started Sage to Silver to share my journeys and provide a space to come together on a shared passion for affordable home design, home cooking, meaningful gatherings, and the pursuit of a slower lifestyle.
My inspiration behind Sage to Silver comes from my family. My grandmother’s house was the first place I fell in love with décor. My grandparents lived in a beautiful white and brick home with a backyard that seemed as kids, to go on forever. It was always so neat and perfect, pristine, and everything had a place; something you would see in the pages of a magazine. My grandfather and his father were both woodworkers who made several of the pieces of furniture I have in my home today.
In addition to home decor, I learned my love of cooking and baking, gardening, and building from my family. It is truly something I hold dear because of the sweet memories it has created and the lessons I have learned, which include two things from my mother and her mother; always cleanse a new home with sage and keep good silver in the house. These two lessons together represent my style in a perfect way; earthy to classic and everything in between.
Back in 2006, I was introduced to a sweet, smiley guy named Tyler by a friend; he changed my life in so many ways and we married in 2012. He inspires me every day to be happy, not worry about the small stuff, and most of all to be myself.
We now live in a sweet 1920’s farmhouse on an amazing piece of land, living the simple life and loving every minute of it. On our off time, we enjoy going outdoors, trying new restaurants, cooking together, and working towards growing our little homestead by adding some animals to the family, building our dream garden, and taking on new adventures.
A few other things that make me, me is my love for fall and obsession with Halloween, I start planning months in advance. I rarely go a day without coffee because it’s just the best thing and it is usually iced (unless it’s fall…pumpkin spice lattes!!) and I love sweets.
History and ancestry are a couple other of my off time hobbies, I work on my family tree, read stories from the past and I incorporate history into all my travel plans so that I can stand in the spot where the history happened.
It is easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle and forget to make time for the things that really make you happy. My dream is that Sage to Silver can influence others to live simply to simply live, even in this modern world.
